Question: How many Scottish based income tax payers have their tax affairs handled by tax offices outside Scotland; and what is the location of the tax offices. - (Holding answer 14 February 1997).

Answer: Mr. Walker: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many Scottish-based income tax payers have their tax affairs handled by tax offices outside Scotland; and what is the location of the tax offices. [15930] Mr. Jack: [holding answer 14 February 1997]: The information is not available. In particular, taxpayer records of employees are grouped by reference to their employers. All the employees of a particular employer will be dealt with by the same tax office, which might be located anywhere in the UK. It is not immediately possible to distinguish those employees living in Scotland from those living in other parts of the UK.
