Mr. Barry Jones: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what estimate she has made of the number of apprenticeships in British manufacturing industry; and if she will make a statement. [12995] Mr. Paice: In summer 1996, there were around 44,000 people doing apprenticeships in manufacturing industry in Great Britain, according to the labour force survey.
