Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment, What measures his Department is taking to improve the training of primary school teachers. (Failed OPQ)

Answer: Ms Dari Taylor: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what measures his Department is taking to improve the training of primary school teachers. [59125] Miss Melanie Johnson: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what measures his Department is taking to improve the training of primary school teachers. [59136] Mr. Charles Clarke: From September this year all those training to become primary school teachers must follow a national training curriculum in English and mathematics which specifies the essential core of knowledge, understanding and skills which all trainees must be taught, know and be able to do in relation to primary English and mathematics. As part of the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies, all serving primary teachers will receive training in the most effective methods of teaching these key skills.
