Mr. Flynn: To ask the President of the Board of Trade what new proposals she has to restrict the activities of loan companies charging excessive rates of interest. [49406] Mr. Nigel Griffiths: The Director General of Fair Trading is currently consulting on the extortionate credit provisions of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. Before taking further action I will study the evidence this exercise produces and his proposals.
