Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, what assessment he has made of the role of London Fashion Week in promoting the United Kingdom textile industry.

Answer: Mr. Gordon Prentice: To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what assessment he has made of the role of London Fashion Week in promoting the United Kingdom textile industry; and if he will make a statement. [61646] Mr. Battle: My Department is one of the supporters of London Fashion Week and we therefore assess its effectiveness in promoting the UK textiles and clothing sector each time it takes place. London Fashion Week is an important showcase for British design talent. Many of the designers whose profiles were initially raised by London Fashion Week are now working closely with UK producers of textiles and clothing, as well as with UK retailers, to provide a competitive design edge to existing ranges, and to help develop new and innovative products. London Fashion Week also plays an important role in projecting the image of British fashion and textiles world-wide.
