Question: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, pursuant to the oral Statement by the Economic Secretary to the Treasury 319 c342-9, of 11th November, on taxation of road hauliers, if he will list examples of continental hauliers who have chosen to register their truck in the UK; and how many foreign-owned trucks have been registered in the UK by continental hauliers. - Info not held.

Answer: Mr. Jenkin: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, pursuant to the oral Statement by the Economic Secretary to the Treasury of 11 November 1998, Official Report, column 349, on taxation of road hauliers, if he will list examples of continental hauliers who have chosen to register their truck in the UK; and how many foreign-owned trucks have been registered in the UK by continental hauliers. [59885] Ms Glenda Jackson: This information is not held by my Department. As my hon. Friend the Economic Secretary stated on 11 November 1998, there has been a report in the trade press of French hauliers registering their businesses in the UK to take advantage of lower business costs.
