To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment, how many head teachers have been (a) suspended and then re-instated and (b) dismissed following investigations of financial irregularities concerning their school's finances in each year since 1987; and how many were subsequently convicted of a criminal offence. - Disproportionate cost.

Mr. Gordon Prentice: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many head teachers have been (a) suspended and then re-instated and (b) dismissed following investigations of financial irregularities concerning their school's finances in each year since 1987; and how many were subsequently convicted of a criminal offence. [54435] Mr. Charles Clarke: Of the information requested (a) is not collected centrally, and (b) could be provided only at disproportionate cost, since manual searches through individual records would be required.
