Mr. Chidgey: To ask the Attorney-General if he will list the task forces and advisory groups composed of independent members which have been set up by his Department since 1 May 1997, indicating in each case (a) their remit, (b) their membership, (c) how many members are (i) scientists, (ii) engineers, (iii) small business people or representatives of small businesses, (d) any remuneration members receive for their services and (e) their budget. [53285] The Attorney-General: On 12 June 1997 I established the Review of the Crown Prosecution Service under the chairmanship of the right hon. Sir Iain Glidewell, a retired Lord Justice of Appeal. He was assisted by Sir Geoffrey Dear (a retired HM Inspector of Constabulary) and Mr. Robert McFarland, a retired Chief Executive of a multi-national company. Their Report was published on 1 June 1998. The terms of reference for the Review were set out in my written answer to the House on 12 June 1997, Official Report, column 533. Sir Iain Glidewell was remunerated according to the daily sitting rate established for retired members of the Court of Appeal who discharge judicial duties and that was £556.00 per day. Sir Geoffrey Dear and Mr. Robert McFarland were each remunerated at the rate of £440.00 per day each. Subject to some outstanding items, the overall cost of the review was £652,466.00.
