Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list the taskforces and advisory groups composed of independent members which have been set up by his Dept since 1 May 1997 and in each case (a) their remit, (b) their membership, (c) how many members are (i) scientists, (ii) engineers and (iii) small businesspeople of representatives of small businesses, (d) any remuneration members receive for their services and (e) their budget. - (List in Library as Dep 98/908).

Answer: Mr. Chidgey: To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list the taskforces and advisory groups composed of independent members which have been set up by his Department since 1 May 1997 and in each case (a) their remit, (b) their membership, (c) how many members are (i) scientists, (ii) engineers and (iii) small businesspeople or representatives of small businesses, (d) any remuneration members receive for their services and (e) their budget. [53146] Mr. Mandelson: Since 1 May 1997 the Department has set up the following task forces and advisory groups which include independent members: The President of the Board of Trade's Advisory Group on Competitiveness, six competitiveness working parties addressing innovation, best practice, the information age, enhancing business performance through developing individuals, business investment, and maximising competitiveness in Europe; the Tech Stars Steering Group and the Low Pay Commission. I have arranged for the information requested for each of these groups to be placed in the Library of the House as soon as is practicable.
