Question: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, if ministerial advisers are eligible for consideration as members of the proposed regional development agencies; and what sources of advisers Ministers are using in respect of such appointments.

Answer: Sir Raymond Powell: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if ministerial advisers are eligible for consideration as members of the proposed regional development agencies; and what sources of advisers Ministers are using in respect of such appointments. [41713] Mr. Caborn: Civil servants, and special advisers holding temporary Civil Service status, are not eligible to be considered for membership of Regional Development Agency Boards. The selection process will be subject to independent scrutiny as required by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
