To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department, what steps he is taking to ensure that employers give support to employees who wish to become magistrates.

Helen Jones: To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department what steps he is taking to ensure that employers give support to employees who wish to become magistrates. [41864] Mr. Hoon: The Lord Chancellor's Department is working with the Magistrates Association on a project directed at encouraging employers to release staff to serve as magistrates. In addition, the Lord Chancellor has commissioned the Central Office of Information to advise him on ways in which he may secure the support of employers in releasing staff to serve as magistrates.
