Dr. Lynne Jones: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will list the numbers of (a) full-time and (b) sandwich undergraduates broken down by socio-economic categories A to E attending former polytechnics and colleges in 1995. [39423] Dr. Howells: The available data held centrally on full-time and sandwich undergraduate students by social classes A to E are provided in the table. Figures for full-time and sandwich students separately are not available. The table shows the numbers of accepted applicants to full-time and sandwich courses in former polytechnics and colleges who apply through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS); however not all full-time and sandwich undergraduate students in these institutions enter through UCAS.
