Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland, if he will review the capital allocations to the Fire Service in the current year, with particular reference to Lothian and Borders. - Including figures.

Answer: Mr. Gorrie: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will review the capital allocations to the Fire Service in the current year, with particular reference to Lothian and Borders. [37926] Mr. McLeish: No. The fire service capital programme for 1998-99 remains, at its highest ever level, £15.6 million. From this total, Lothian and Borders Joint Fire Board has been granted a special allocation of £0.6 million both in 1997-98 and 1998-99 to assist with its major project of headquarters refurbishment. In addition the board has in each year received its full formula share of the total programme, net of top-slicing for major projects.
