Question: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, how many United Kingdom-registered aircraft were inspected by the Federal Aviation Administration whilst in the United States of America; which airlines were involved; and what defects were found in the last year for which figures are available.

Answer: Mrs. Dunwoody: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions how many United Kingdom-registered aircraft were inspected by the Federal Aviation Administration whilst in the United States of America; which airlines were involved; and what defects were found in the last year for which figures are available. [37922] Ms Glenda Jackson: We are not generally informed of FAA inspections on UK registered aircraft. I understand that the FAA are required to carry out a minimum of one ramp check on each foreign airline operating to the US. They are not under any obligation to inform the CAA of ramp checks carried out on UK registered aircraft, but may do so if a ramp check raises a particular issue. The CAA do not hold a central record of any such approaches from the FAA.
