Dr. Cable: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the change in price competitiveness of British exports since May 1997. [97007] Miss Melanie Johnson: There is strong evidence that exporters are coping well with the continued high level of sterling. Export volumes rose strongly over the summer to their highest ever level, and latest surveys show manufacturing output in October growing for the seventh consecutive month.
