Answer: Mrs. Ann Winterton: To ask the Secretary of State for International Development what role her Department is taking in encouraging developing countries to reduce the production and supply of illegal drugs. [82958] Clare Short: We recently published a strategy paper on illicit drugs and the development assistance programme. It stresses the need to provide effective support to poor communities that grow narcotics so that other crops offer a better life than the proceeds of narcotic production. I have placed a copy in the Library of the House and will send one to the hon. Member.
