Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment, What actions he is taking to encourage access to higher education. (Failed OPQ). - Includes figures.

Answer: Mr. Ben Chapman: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what actions he is taking to encourage access to higher education. [64065] Mr. Pound: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what action he is taking to encourage access to higher education. [64068] Mr. Mudie: We have doubled Access Funds and extended them to part-time students; increased the number of student places; enabled the Higher Education Funding Council for England to allow funding of £30 million per annum for widening participation activities and provided for fees to be waived for part-time students on benefits or who have lost their jobs during their study. Further measures are under consideration.
