To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment, how many pupils were in classes of 41 or more taught by one teacher in maintained secondary schools (a) on 1st May 1997 and (b) according to the most recent available figures; how many pupils were in classes of 31 or more pupils taught by one teacher in maintained schools (a) on 1st May 1997 and (b) on the latest date for which figures are available. - Including figures and table.
