Mr. Bercow: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport if she will make a statement on the use of Burmese teak in
the Lottery-funded restoration of HMS Warrior; and what assessment she has made of whether importing Burmese teak for such use is in
line with Government policy regarding trade with Burma. [224768]
Estelle Morris: In December 2000, the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) awarded a grant of £725,000 to the Warrior Preservation Trust for
the restoration of HMS Warrior, the Royal Navy's first ironclad and the most revolutionary warship of her age. The award was
conditional upon the trust satisfying HLF that the teak came from a sustainable source.
The Heritage Lottery Fund agreed new guidance on timber procurement in January 2005. Under this guidance, all timber used on
HLF-funded projects must be obtained from verifiable legal sources. The preference must always be for HLF grant recipients to use
timber that can be shown to have been obtained from sustainably managed forests. The guidance has been developed with the assistance
of the UK Government's `Central Point of Expertise on Timber' (CPET). Although there is no ban on companies trading with Burma, the
Government does not encourage trade and investment with that country; neither does it give financial support to promote trade
missions there.

Mr. Rosindell: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what steps she is taking to tackle film piracy. [224655]
Estelle Morris: Together with Lord Sainsbury, Minister for Science and Innovation at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), I
chair the Creative Industries Forum on Intellectual Property. The forum has been exploring the issue of piracy as it affects all the
creative industries. The forum's members include Government Departments and representatives from the creative industries sectors,
including the UK Film Council, the Government's strategic agency for film. The threat of piracy to the film industry was outlined in
the UK Film Council's report "Film Theft in the UK", published in December 2004 and these findings have been fed into the work of
the forum.
We expect the forum to make final recommendations later this year. The Government will consider these and make a detailed response
in due course.

Mr. Bercow: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what policy direction she has given to lottery distributors
regarding the use of Burmese teak. [224767]
Estelle Morris: I have issued no such policy direction. The policy directions issued to the lottery distributors set out the
framework for the wider aims of lottery funding, and do not specify detailed criteria.
The directions do include the need for the distributing bodies to further the objectives of sustainable development when awarding
lottery grants. The lottery distributing bodies are strongly committed to sustainable development, including the procurement of
timber from legal and sustainable sources.

Estelle Morris: As the Charter Review Green Paper makes clear, the vast majority of citizens will need only a source of good
information to help them through switchover. However, we are working with the BBC and others to assess the scope of measures
required to ensure the interests of the most vulnerable customers are protected.

Mr. Jim Cunningham: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport how many publicly- funded art galleries there are in
England; and how many are open to the public. [223711]
Estelle Morris: There are 94 art galleries in England that receive public funding directly from Arts Council England (ACE) or my
Department.
ACE directly funds 91 art galleries and DCMS sponsors three major national art galleries: the National Gallery; the National
Portrait Gallery; and the Tate. In addition, two of the national museums we sponsor, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Wallace
Collection, hold substantial art collections.
All are open to the public.
Many art galleries and museums also receive public funds through their involvement in programmes such as Renaissance and Creative
Partnerships, or from their local authority.

Estelle Morris: None. Ofcom's work on options for tightening the rules on broadcast food promotion to children will include original
research on the volume, frequency and nature of food and drink advertising and the Department of Health and Food Standards Agency
will look to establish success criteria for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of action to restrict further the promotion
to children of foods high in fat, salt and sugar across media, consulting my Department and Ofcom as necessary.

Estelle Morris: The Department's lottery awards database does not hold information about the materials used in lottery-supported
construction projects.
Lottery distributors are obliged to take into account policy directions from the Secretary of State. These directions set out the
framework for the wider aims of lottery funding, and include the need for the distributing bodies to further the objectives of
sustainable development when awarding lottery grants. The lottery distributing bodies are strongly committed to sustainable
development, including the procurement of timber from legal and sustainable sources.

In addition to the awards made, funding from the New Opportunities Fund totalling £4,986,197 has been allocated under the Coronary
Heart Disease, Stroke and Cancer Programme Wales for the purchase of Angiography equipment for six NHS trusts in Wales. To date,
only one trust, Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust, has purchased equipment, as most of the trusts have had to do a capital build to house
equipment.

Mr. Amess: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport if she will make a statement on public spending on the arts in
2004-05. [222748]
Estelle Morris: A total of £507.5 million of public money has been allocated to Arts Council England for spending on the arts
to date in 2004-05. This consists of £367 million of Grant in Aid and £140.5 million from the National Lottery
Distribution Fund.
In addition, local authorities up and down the country are spending significant sums of money on the arts. While we have no current
figures for this, a survey in 2002-03 suggested that this was then at least £261 million.
