Mr. Mitchell: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the proportion of total defence spending which is to be spent on nuclear armaments. [135389] Mr. Spellar: In the last financial year, 1999-2000, expenditure on the nuclear warhead programme totalled £391 million--that is, approximately 1.75 per cent. of net defence expenditure for the year.
