Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, What his latest assessment is of the prospects for the reunification of Cyprus. (Failed OPQ).
Answer

Mr. Simon Hughes: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what his latest assessment is of the prospects for the reunification of Cyprus. [154104] Mr. Vaz: The UK strongly believes that the current UN settlement process, launched in December 1999 by the UN Secretary General, offers an excellent opportunity to achieve a just and lasting settlement in Cyprus. This is in the interests of all concerned. The UN process is currently at a sensitive and difficult stage but the UK has every confidence in the ability of the UN to find a way to resolve the current difficulties and move forward. To that end we will continue strongly to urge all those involved to remain fully and positively engaged in the search for a solution.
