To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what the total cost to date is of maintaining British troops in Afghanistan. - Including figure and fact that I will write shortly concerning expenditure in 2001-02 and 2002-03 and place a copy in Library.

Mr. Blizzard: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what the total cost to date is of maintaining British troops in Afghanistan. [79985] Mr. Ingram: The cost of Operations in Afghanistan for 2001-2002 was estimated to be £261 million and this was published in Spring Supplementary Estimates. I will write to my hon. Friend shortly concerning expenditure in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 and a copy of my letter will be placed in the Library of the House.
