Question: To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, how many dogs there were in the Drug Sniffer Dog Unit at Plymouth prior to its closure. - (Holding answer 1 March 1999).

Answer: Mr. Steen: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many dogs there were in the Drug Sniffer Dog Unit at Plymouth prior to its closure. [73652] Dawn Primarolo: [holding answer 1 March 1999]: The Customs drugs dog unit at Plymouth comprises of three dogs. The unit is still operational. Customs managers in the south-west are currently reviewing the local deployment of anti-smuggling resources; closure is only one of a number of options currently being considered.
