Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment he has made of the adequacy of security measures on the London Underground to counter the threat of terrorism.

Answer: Mr. Greg Knight: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment he has made of the adequacy of security measures on the London Underground to counter the threat of terrorism. [140202] Dr. Howells: In July this year my Department issued legally binding Instructions to London Underground Ltd. to formalise protective security measures already place. A supporting London Underground Security Programme was issued in August. This regime builds on the sound measures developed by LU and BTP over the past 30 years. The regime is designed to be responsive to the level of threat and to be proportionate. The security procedures are subject to inspection by inspectors from my Department.
