Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what (a) hip replacement, (b) knee replacement, (c) cataract, (d) heart bypass and (e) varicose veins cost on average in 2002-03 (i) a private patient and (ii) the NHS; and what the difference was between the mid-private price and 60 per cent. of the NHS average cost. - The Department does not collect information on the average cost of treatments provided to private patients; The national average costs for treatments within the national health service for 2002-03 are not currently available.
