Mr. Key: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the Terrier project; and if he will list the project milestones. [68757] Mr. Spellar: [holding answer 3 February 1999]: Terrier will replace the in-service Combat Engineer Tractor and will provide battlefield mobility/counter mobility by performing Engineer tasks. Tenders for the Project Definition phase have been received recently from three companies, Alvis, Marconi Marine and Vickers Defence Systems and are currently being assessed. It is planned to place two competitive Project Definition contracts later this year, leading to the selection of a contractor for Full Development and Production. The vehicle is currently expected to enter service in 2008.
