Question: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many prison visitor centres are financed by (a) the prison from its own funds and (b) the prison service.

Answer: Bob Russell: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prison visitor centres are financed by (a) the prison from its own funds and (b) the Prison Service. [110083] Hilary Benn: Responsibility for the provision of grants to support prison visitors' centres was devolved to prison Governors on 1 April 1994. It is a matter for individual Governors to decide the level of funding to be allocated to their visitors' centre, as they are best placed to assess the facilities required locally. Information on funding to centres by individual prisons is not collated centrally.
