Ms Lawrence: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what further developments there have been on the Tax Law Rewrite Project. [78963] Dawn Primarolo: I am pleased to announce that the Tax Law Rewrite project is making very good progress and continues to enjoy wide support. The Inland Revenue have published a document which reviews the recent progress of the project and outlines its work programme for 1999-2000. Copies have been placed in the Libraries of the House. The Steering Committee chaired by Lord Howe of Aberavon carried out a stocktake of the project during 1998. The rewritten legislation has been well received by the main users in the tax community and they are enthusiastic that the project should continue. It is a massive undertaking, but one we are committed to doing well.
