Question: To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, pursuant to his Answer of 27th January 2003 at 398 c614W, on fraudulent income tax evasion, how many prosecutions are under way; how many prosecutions have been undertaken but not completed since 1st January 2002; and if he will make a statement. - Includes figures.

Answer: Matthew Taylor: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer pursuant to his answer of 27 January 2003, Official Report, column 614W, on fraudulent income tax evasion, how many prosecutions are under way; how many prosecutions have been undertaken but not completed since 1 January 2002; and if he will make a statement. [95253] Dawn Primarolo: As at 31 January 2003, 23 cases, of which 21 have been registered since 1 January 2002, are under investigation working towards prosecution using the new offence of fraudulent evasion of income tax.
