Mr. Heathcoat-Amory: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will identify the independent studies on migration referred to in his written statement of 16 December 2002, Official Report, columns 537-551, on EU enlargement and free movement of workers. [89247] Mr. MacShane: Successive independent studies have indicated that there is unlikely to be a large influx of workers from the new member states to the UK after accession. Two recent examples include: Bauer, Thomas K and Zimmerman, Klaus F (1999), "Assessment of Possible Migration Pressures and its Labour Market Impact Following EU Enlargement to Central and Eastern Europe", and Boeri, Tito and Bruecker, Herbert (2000), "The Impact of Enlargement on Employment and Labour Markets in the EU Member States".
