Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what the tax component of the recent increase in water rates is.
Answer

Miss McIntosh: To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what the tax component of the recent increase in water rates is. [203673] Mr. Morley: Changes to Corporation Tax on water companies from 1 April 2004 will contribute about £5 to the increase in the average household water and sewerage bill in England and Wales for the period 1 April 2005 to 31 March 2010. The effect on each company, which depends on its tax position, is set out in `Future water and sewerage charges 2005-10: final determinations', published by Ofwat on 2 December 2004, which is in the Library of the House.
