Tom Cox: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what discussions he has had with the United States Administration on ensuring that British citizens extradited to the United States are not subject to the death penalty; and if he will make a statement. [194747] Caroline Flint: Whenever the UK receives an extradition request from the United States, or any other country, where the subject of the request has been, will be, or could be sentenced to death, extradition will not be ordered unless the Secretary of State receives strict written assurances from the requesting state that the death sentence, if imposed, would not be carried out.
