European Council, 16–17 June
My Lords, I mean that I am trying to intervene in a debate in Europe before former European commissioners and those who claim to have arranged the rebate. Why have the Government taken so long to understand what has been glaringly plain to most of us? I receive a large wadge of money from the CAP; I love it, but I still see that it is wrong. It has been obvious that the CAP has been useless for a long time. The annual accounts of the European Union have still not been settled, and then there is the fisheries policy. Why did the Government not foresee this row before it appeared to be forced on them? All the other issues have to be sorted out to make Europe function in a proper and sensible way.
