G8: 2005 Summit

My Lords, what is absolutely clear on HIV/AIDS, and clear from the discussions at the G8 and elsewhere, is that we have to focus on three things: prevention; treatment, and seeking to find a vaccine. Building up health systems in developing countries is an important part of prevention, but it is also important with respect to treatment. As the noble Baroness, Lady Tonge, said, these drugs need to be administered correctly. So we see this very much as a holistic, integrated approach; and certainly as part of the way that the UK Government seek to work on HIV/AIDS in developing countries, it is the integrated approach that we take.
