Proceeding contribution from Lord Bassam of Brighton (Labour) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 12 July 2005. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee of the Whole House (HL) on Charities Bill [HL].
Charities Bill [HL]
I do not know the answer to that. However, I do not think the provision is unreasonable in the circumstances. The noble Lord will accept that charities dispense many services, and account for large expenditures of public funds. This is a useful protection, and it is right we give some effect to it.
