Proceeding contribution from Lord Glentoran (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Monday, 7 November 2005. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Court Martial Judgment.

Court Martial Judgment

My Lords, I declare an interest having served for a short time of my life with the Parachute Regiment. At the end of this debate, I should like to hear something positive from Her Majesty’s Government. It is quite obvious that the rules of engagement are no longer clear; it is quite obvious—I have been through it—that the Manual of Military Law has been significantly changed and that the lines of command are not as clear as they should be; and it is also quite obvious that the legal processes which have allowed this to happen are bad. What are Her Majesty’s Government going to do? What undertaking will the Minister give in regard to correcting this situation? When will he come back to the House to tell us what he has done?
