Proceeding contribution from Baroness Neuberger (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Lords on Monday, 21 November 2005. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on NHS Redress Bill [HL].
NHS Redress Bill [HL]
I absolutely accept what the Minister has said about the specific arrangements to do with general practitioners, which is one reason why I cited that earlier. By far the majority of health services provided in primary care and in the community are not provided by GPs. They are provided by physiotherapists, community nurses, podiatrists and a whole variety of professions that are allied to medicine. Sometimes they are provided by practice nurses—I could add many more. Even if in the shorter term, because a negotiation with the MDU and the Medical Protection Society was not possible, it was not possible to include GPs, it must be right to include all the other professionals who work in primary and community health services outside hospitals. That is where the bulk of health services take place. Even if claims at the moment do not come from there, they surely will. I beg leave to withdraw the amendment. Amendment, by leave, withdrawn.
