Proceeding contribution from Baroness Neuberger (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Lords on Monday, 21 November 2005. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on NHS Redress Bill [HL].
NHS Redress Bill [HL]
I support the noble Earl on this amendment. We have already been around the issue of whether, in a sense, we want to separate the two stages. If the provision came to pass, it could be very unfair on claimants, particularly those less well off. If they were not granted legal aid—we think it likely that they might not be under the provision—they simply could not afford to bring a case. That could be unfair. Our support is on the basis that the amendment is probing. How will the Government answer those points?
