Proceeding contribution from Baroness Anelay of St Johns (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 16 November 2005. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Identity Cards Bill.

Identity Cards Bill

It would be enforced in the way that the rest of the Bill is to operate; that is, to offer the same kind of protections as the noble Baroness, Lady Corston, prays in aid with regard to women living in communities and societies where their rights as women are not treated as equal. My amendment would give people the confidence to say, ““No. I have a choice””. That is the strength of the amendment. The Minister also referred to proof of age and said that my amendment would prevent people who operate licensed premises being able to require validation. Having sat as a licensing magistrate, it is my understanding of the law that it is a legal requirement for a premises to operate a lawful house.
