Road Pricing

: I am just finishing. Above all, Her Majesty's Government have a special duty not only to offer warm words, but to make difficult decisions and offer a clear line of responsibility. They do not appear to be ready to do that with road planning, even though they have started the debate. They intend to have another four years of debate, without decisions being taken at the end of that debate. There is a suggestion that after the next general election—if we live long enough—the incoming Government will face up to the problems of traffic congestion. That is to condemn our cities and villages—not to mention the United Kingdom's economic development—to chaos and, in the final analysis, very real damage. The Government do not want to do that. They have a clear view of their own interests at least, but it is about time that they told us what they intend to do, when they intend to do it and how they intend to produce results.
