Asylum (Designated States) (No. 2)Order 2005

My Lords, the noble Lord has told the House that the legal test for designation is met in respect of men, but not yet in respect of women in Ghana and Nigeria. I understand that the evidence suggests that women are at risk for a variety of reasons, including the horrific practice of female genital mutilation, trafficking, domestic violence and forced marriage. I hope that the Minister can reassure me that great care is taken to ensure that women are not put in a position in which they are sent back to places where such things can happen to them. Female genital mutilation is very much disliked in this House and next week we have an Unstarred Question on this very subject. We all feel horrified by the whole practice. I would be grateful if the Minister can assure me on that point. We have 14 countries with the addition of three. In how many countries do women meet the same criteria as men?
