On 27th May, HM Treasury and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) launched a four-week stakeholder consultation on a proposal to suspend tariffs on a package of agri-food products, including bananas. As part of that Call for Input, officials from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) engaged with a range of overseas governments, local businesses and trade associations about the impact of the proposals on producers in developing countries. The FCDO will work with HM Treasury and DBT to ensure that the evidence provided by those stakeholders is carefully considered before any final decisions are taken.

We have received evidence on the impact of liberalising bananas on producers in developing countries as part of the Call for Input on Cost-of-Living Tariff Suspensions which closed on 24th June.
HM Treasury and the Department for Business and Trade, working with other relevant departments, are carefully considering that evidence ahead of making a final decision.

The UK regularly discusses the importance of freedom of expression and wider human rights with the Government of Ghana. The Prime Minister discussed human rights with President Mahama during their meeting in London on 2 June, reiterating that human rights apply equally to all people. The UK continues to advocate for freedom of expression both bilaterally and through relevant multilateral fora, including through our role as co-chair of the Media Freedom Coalition.

NHS medical equipment is owned and managed by individual NHS trusts and organisations, which are responsible for decisions on reuse, disposal or donation under their own governance, safety and regulatory arrangements. Where equipment is donated overseas, this is typically undertaken on a small‑scale basis through direct institutional relationships rather than government‑led schemes.

The UK is the largest donor to Commonwealth institutions and their programmes. We support reform of the Commonwealth Secretariat to help place the organisation on a more sustainable financial footing and encourage member states to contribute as appropriate to support Commonwealth activity.
