Light Rail
I want to follow up the point about Government encouragement for light rapid transit system schemes. Is the hon. Gentleman aware that local authorities in Hampshire—Gosport and Portsmouth—were encouraged to spend many millions of pounds developing a light rapid transit system? It would have been extremely viable, and was widely regarded as being one of the most cost-effective schemes in the country. Road schemes were delayed while that system was being discussed.
