Proceeding contribution from Chris Bryant (Labour) in the House of Commons on Friday, 2 December 2005. It occurred during Debate on bill on Criminal Law (Amendment) (Protection of Property) Bill.
Criminal Law (Amendment) (Protection of Property) Bill
Does my hon. Friend agree with the journalist who wrote:"““For unlike the current law, where the householder may have to explain why the action he took was reasonable, the person who would need to prove that the force used was ‘grossly disproportionate’ might well be dead.””?" Those are the words of Melanie Phillips in The Daily Mail on 6 December 2004, opposing the previous Bill.
