Proceeding contribution from Andrew Dismore (Labour) in the House of Commons on Friday, 2 December 2005. It occurred during Debate on bill on Criminal Law (Amendment) (Protection of Property) Bill.

Criminal Law (Amendment) (Protection of Property) Bill

A judge could merely issue a certificate of incompatibility. We would be back here straight away and we would have to debate a new Bill to put the law back to where we started. However, that gives rise to the question of whether the Bill would be incompatible, so perhaps I can address that matter now as we are running a little short of time. Article 2 says:"““Everyone’s right to life shall be protected by law. No one shall be deprived of his life intentionally save in the execution of a sentence of a court following his conviction of a crime for which this penalty is provided by law.””" It goes on to deal with defending people from unlawful violence.
