Electoral Administration Bill

I should have spoken to Amendments Nos. 13 and 24, as they are grouped with Amendment No. 12. We are particularly concerned to establish—and my honourable friend in another place, Caroline Spelman, asked a Question to make certain—that this scheme is not going to be linked up with the ID cards scheme. As my noble friend Lady Hanham said earlier, modern technology being what it is, it does not always work as well as we would like, as I know from my local government experience. So we are not sure how modern technology is going to cope with all this. We want some assurances and some straight answers that this is not linked up with the ID cards scheme. That is the purpose of the other amendments, which I beg to move.
