Electoral Administration Bill

One of the great joys of Committee stage is the ability for me to take away all the comments that have been made and look carefully with parliamentary counsel at whether our drafting is right. When issues of interpretation arise, sometimes, as I tried to indicate to the noble Lord, Lord Hanningfield, when we debated the previous group, there is a need to put things in a legal framework that makes sense—primarily, I am afraid, to the lawyers. In other areas it is important that we use this opportunity to ensure that the drafting is as tight as it needs to be. So I do not think that there is any difference between the intention of the noble Lord, Lord Greaves, and that of the Government, but of course I will make sure that the drafting is looked at in relation to all our discussions to ensure that it is as tight as possible.
