Childcare Bill

I have been listening carefully to the Minister’s argument, although I have had difficulty in following some of its intricacies. If the hon. Lady accepts that the alternative words proposed by my hon. Friend the Member for Mid-Dorset and North Poole (Annette Brooke) cover the full range of what she wants to achieve and if she is arguing that the word ““taught”” covers not only that but something that she does not want to achieve—young children being taught formally—does she not agree that it would be better to accept my hon. Friend’s words? If they need tidying up, perhaps the hon. Lady could give us a hint that she will go in that direction. She seems to be trying to achieve something far beyond the aims behind the initial wording of the Bill.
