Electoral Administration Bill

Subject to our discussions with the usual channels, I would be perfectly happy with that procedure. I would not wish noble Lords to feel that time had prevented them from having the quality and type of debate that they require on these issues. Again, a similar procedure was used in the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Bill. I say ““procedure””, but I just did it—I am not sure that I was following procedure. I am sure that we could have a discussion through the usual channels before Thursday; perhaps on Thursday I could put forward a formal proposition, which I will have discussed with the usual channels beforehand and with which noble Lords will feel comfortable. We have absolutely no desire other than to have a proper debate on these issues, as they are relevant and important to us all. I simply think that we can probably find a way of doing that without disrupting the procedure of this Bill while enabling us to have a good discussion, which will also inform the Government’s ability to bring forward amendments.
