Proceeding contribution from Lord Greaves (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 21 March 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Electoral Administration Bill.

Electoral Administration Bill

Oh yes. I shall introduce you to some of those people if you like. I am pleased to say that we have said very firmly that those people are excellent candidates and we are nominating them. If, because of anti-women prejudice, they do not get elected, we will try again in future. However, more to the point, I have a real sense of déjà vu about this debate. I remember that back in 1961—which will be too far back for the noble Baroness to remember—the National League of Young Liberals launched a campaign entitled, ““Votes at 18””. Eventually—in fact, not very long after; I think that it was in 1968 or thereabouts—the Harold Wilson Government introduced votes at 18.
